VAT invoices that match your sales, your payments and your return

Q+ issues the tax invoice at the moment of the sale and keeps it linked to the payment and the accounting entries. At the end of the period, the VAT report comes from the same records, so you do not rebuild the numbers by hand.

How VAT works in Q+

The Oman Tax Authority states that the standard VAT rate is 5% on most goods and services, with a few exceptions. Q+ follows your registration. When your business is VAT-registered and you have entered your VATIN, Q+ applies your VAT rate to each sale and invoice. When you are not registered, the rate is 0% and your invoices do not show VAT.

Q+ applies one rate to a whole document. If you sell items that are zero-rated or exempt, talk to your accountant about how to invoice them before you rely on the default.

What appears on a Q+ tax invoice

  • Your business name and your VATIN.
  • The customer and the invoice number and date.
  • Each line with quantity, price and amount.
  • The subtotal, the VAT total and the grand total in Omani rials to three decimal places.

The PDF shows the VAT as a total line. It does not show a separate VAT column for each line.

From quote to invoice to payment

For larger jobs, such as a catering order or a repair, you can send a quote first. When the customer accepts, Q+ converts the quote into an invoice together with a payment or a credit decision, so an accepted quote does not sit as an unpaid invoice that nobody follows. Counter sales from the POS create their invoice and payment at once.

Credit notes instead of edits

An issued tax invoice should not change quietly. When you need to correct one, issue a credit note. Q+ keeps the original invoice and the credit note side by side, so the VAT on your return matches what your customer received.

Accounting that follows the invoice

Each sale creates the linked accounting entries. The owner reports include a VAT report, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, expenses, aged receivables and revenue by client. Your accountant works from the same records you see in the app.

Why three decimals matter for VAT

The Omani rial has three decimal places. Software that rounds to two decimals can change the VAT on each sale by a baisa or more, and those small errors add up across a quarter. Q+ calculates OMR to three decimal places throughout, so line totals, VAT and the report agree.

Fawtara e-invoicing

The Tax Authority is rolling out Fawtara, its structured e-invoicing system, in phases. Q+ does not submit invoices to Fawtara today and is not an accredited service provider. Read our Oman VAT e-invoicing guide for the phases and dates the Tax Authority has published.
